Why are we splitting?
Cycle 6 brought over 80 registered members to Formation, with a waitlist and a sold out show. We want to include as many women as possible in our community while also respecting the quality of the music-making and our physical space limitations. BOTH groups will have the same dedication to community. BOTH groups will be held to high standards of musicianship. And, BOTH groups will see Erin and Anne! Two ensembles; one community.
Wind Symphony
Formation Wind Symphony is a non-auditioned group. We want as many women who want to participate in Formation to have that opportunity!!! Registration for our Wind Symphony will be sent out and posted here starting March 15th at 11am and will close April 20th. Members can look for registration confirmation on April 23rd with a link to music for Cycle 7 and an invitation to join our Slack.
Wind Symphony Expectations:
The Cycle 7 Guest Conductor will also work with the Wind Symphony. The opportunity to guest conduct Formation builds upon our mission of empowering women by inviting members to develop their leadership skills on the podium. One woman will be chosen to conduct a piece this term alongside Anne and Erin. Before the cycle begins there will be a meeting of the minds to discuss goals and hopes for the season. The guest conductor will be responsible for studying, rehearsing, and performing their piece. After each rehearsal, the conductors will meet to discuss progress towards their goals and set focuses for the next rehearsal and/or performance. Repertoire will be assigned after the conductor has been chosen. Minimum of one previous term with the band required.
Wind Symphony Expectations:
- grade 3-5 repertoire with individual preparation of music prior to rehearsal (comparable difficulty to previous cycles)
- Open membership each cycle - no ongoing commitment. Join us for a cycle when you can!
- No section caps!
